Itsyville Community Profile
Community Overview
Village of wood spirits. Approximately seven houses visible to date. The houses were
constructed by Steve Blanchard under frequent and annoying mandates from the Itsies, who
serve as consultants on most Itsyville structures (including tree houses). One exception
was a house that was dictated by a Podot named Moochie. (For more information about Itsies
and Podots, see Wood Spirit FAQ Guide.) All buildings were and are constructed out of
redwood trunks with the express permission of tree use from the wood spirits, save one
stipulation: no building may be level, square or plumb. This suited Steve just fine.
Geographic Location and Date Residential Construction Began:
Vernal Equinox of 1998
Official location: 667 Hwy 68 Salinas, CA. About 15 miles east of Monterey .
Population:
Itsies: Total population count unknown, but (Reports vary widely when children
are present.)
Podots: Population unknown. It is reported that many congregate around a suds-producing
still, hidden somewhere in Itsyville. One of the dwellings is owned by Moochie and
considered an eyesore and perpetual fixer-upper since Podots are inherently lazy. A result
of suds consumption.
Estimated Total Population: 1 to . . . .
Estimated Range of Population Age and Average Age: Irrelevant because they don't age,
and each individual has looked the same forever, but there appears to be an equal
representation of male and female children and male and female adults.
Industries and Major Employers:
Magic Door Company, gardening, ORIGINAL MEANT TO BE seed
distribution, Moochie's Grease Company and squeak study facility, wood carving and
one-of-a-kind limited-edition tree houses, when redwood trunks are approved and available
for use. Caveat Emptor: Before a tree house may be constructed and commissioned to reside
outside the Itsyville village limits, the Itsies and Steve must agree on all aspects of
project. (Phone way ahead to allow for plenty of committee discussion time. Not
responsible for noise level of discussions.)
Community Facilities:
(a)The very first library-- A seed library, which exists below a giant stump located in
the center of village and is used for storage and distribution of word seed promises. The
facility consists of aisles of tiny drawers containing the seed promises, and a bellows
room for distribution. There is also a small room where the Field Guide to Seed
Promises is kept. The guide serves to not only describe the four main categories of
word seed promises (Plant, Family, animal and gifts), but also serves as an ordering
function. The words to a particular seed promise glow in the guide when there is an order
for them. Seed library established: sometime In The Beginning, not long after thew first
sunrise. Recent branch moved to Salinas Ca. Itsyville location over winter of 2003-2004.
(b) One community outhouse. Itsies had originally thought the building was intended for
solitary spiritual purposes, like a one man church . . . This inrterpretation was based on
their observations of frequent human use. But after extensive testing of their theory,
without the expected results, the Itsies converted its usage to that of a reading room.
Construction in Progress:
Landscaping, including Shrub Maze around library to confuse the Podots, who steal seed
promises and alter them, in direct violation to the vow, and are responsible for countless
not meant to be plants in the land of meant to be because of their actions.
The library is located beneath the trunk of a gialn hollow redwood tree in center of
village. A cloud of seed promises can be seen sometimes exiting the chimney-like top of
the hollow., before the promises disappear and head for the seed shell in our world, that
called for them.
Several new homes are in the imagination phase as well as a bridge.
Utility Services:
Glow visible at night, especially around Christmas time. Again, there have also been
reports of seed promise clouds coming out the top of the library stump. They don't always
appear in the same color and disappear quickly into the atmosphere.
Communication Services:
Frequent bickering with noticeable squeaks from wheelbarrows and hinge-testing
facility.
Known Wood Spirit Residents:
Itsies: Ahum, Yabby, Baaboo, Jimmy Pot, Esra, Meemaw and Nub
Podots: Moochie, Awfulus, Sprig, and Rash.
Other Known Residents and Existing Vegetation:
Ladybugs, but other animals are waiting for the right moment to appear.
Large mushrooms, shrubs, ferns, redwood trees and flowers
Cultural and Recreation Activities:
Their favorite activity is hiding in trees and revealing themselves to people through
their images in redwoods and other trees. Sport bickering is a common pastime. The Bickerfest
is held annually around the main mushroom., although the date is difficult to agree
on so you never know until the last minute!
Scenic Attractions:
Free sideshow attraction available at wood carver's shop next door, Blanchard Wood
Sculpture: a peek at the wood carver that lost his mind in process.
Visitor's Bureau of Information:
Blanchard Wood Sculpture: (831) 484-0963 Over 12 years of age must have proof of
imagination prior to access. Itsyville Community Liason Representative: Steve Blanchard.
